Real Estate Investment Advisory Council (REIAC) Forms Partnership with Real Estate Alumni Group of Georgia State's Robinson College of Business
Groups will co-present events including REIAC Distinguished Lecture on October 14, Views from the Green golf tournament on November 3, and Views from the Top economic forecast in January 2010 September 10, 2009 - (ATLANTA) - The Southeast Chapter of the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council (REIAC) has formed a partnership with the Real Estate Alumni Group of Georgia State University's J. Mack Robinson College of Business under which the organizations will co-market and co-present each other's events. The Real Estate Alumni Group is a non-profit organization that raises money for Robinson College's Department of Real Estate, ranked 11th in the nation among undergraduate real estate programs by U.S. News and World Report. REIAC is a nonprofit association for senior executives who, as principals, develop, acquire, manage or finance commercial investment real estate. REIAC will co-present two events of the Real Estate Alumni Group.
- The first is the fourth annual Views from the Green golf tournament. The popular fundraiser will be held this year on Tuesday, November 3 at Suwanee's River Club. Its golf course is ranked among the top 10 in the Southeast.
- In January 2010 REIAC and the alumni group will jointly present the 23rd annual Views from the Top, a well-known, highly attended program for the commercial real estate industry. The program will begin with an economic outlook presented by
Rajeev Dhawan, director of Robinson's Economic Forecasting Center, followed by a panel discussion of industry leaders.
The Real Estate Alumni Group will support several signature events put on by Robinson's Department of Real Estate, including:
- REIAC Distinguished Lecture Series—Held at the Robinson College of Business, this bi-annual series of lectures and networking events features senior level real estate leaders. Scott Jackson, CEO of Jackson Oats Shaw Corporate Real Estate, will speak at the upcoming REIAC Distinguished Lecture on Wednesday, October 14.
- REIAC/Georgia State University Hall of Distinction—This annual event honors individuals for career achievements in the commercial real estate and contributions to the Atlanta area. Past inductees include: Hal Barry, Barry Real Estate; Jim Borders, Novare Group; Jim Jacoby, Atlantic Station LLC and Jacoby Development; and Stephen Selig, Selig Enterprises Inc.
- REIAC Challenge—In this annual case competition teams of Robinson graduate students work on a conceptual problem and present their visions for development. The winning team receives scholarships funded by REIAC. Past challenges have included the redevelopment program for 22-mile Atlanta's BeltLine that encircles the city's urban core.
"The relationship between REIAC and Robinson's Department of Real Estate dates back to the 1990s," noted REIAC chapter founder and president, Jerry Monash. The new partnership between REAIC and the Real Estate Alumni Group is "the next logical step" in the organization's support of Robinson's real estate program and "a way to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional standards." Monash added that "this is the type of alliance motivates and enlivens the membership and directors of REIAC." Sara H. Smith, who is president of the Real Estate Alumni Group, believes that teaming up with REIAC makes sense. "Both organizations spend a lot of time raising awareness about and elevating the perception of Robinson's outstanding Department of Real Estate. In addition, the partnership will provide greater value to members of both groups." According to Julian Diaz, III, chair of Robinson's Department of Real Estate, "With this emerging alliance, we can reach beyond our alumni to raise awareness of the value that our real estate program has to offer the greater community. Many of the top level executives in Atlanta's commercial real estate industry have ties to Robinson's real estate program and a significant number of those folks also are members of REIAC."
